Green Aquamarine Crystal Skull – Shaman Style

This is a shaman-style crystal skull carved from green aquamarine, a material that turns up far less often in skull carving than the quartz-family stones most collectors are used to. Aquamarine is technically a variety of beryl, and it usually leans more towards blue. This piece sits more toward soft green, with pale golden striations running through the body where the original crystal fractured and healed as it grew.

The carving itself is the real feature. Instead of a plain, rounded crown, the carver has left a series of overlapping ridges sweeping back from the brow, layered like feathers or a headdress fanning out behind the face. Each ridge follows the natural growth lines of the aquamarine rather than cutting across them, so the pattern reads as part of the stone as much as part of the carving. The eye sockets are deep and rounded, the cheekbones kept fairly soft, and the jaw carries a simple etched tooth line rather than heavy detail — the attention has clearly gone into the headdress, not the face.

The back of the skull has been left in its natural state. You can see the flat, striated termination face of the rough aquamarine crystal exactly as it came out of the ground, with the same vertical growth lines that run through the front. Leaving this face uncarved is a deliberate choice on a piece like this — it shows buyers exactly what the raw material looked like before any work began, and it’s a detail that photographs can flatten out. In hand, the transition between the polished carved surface and the raw crystal face is much easier to feel and see.

Aquamarine in general is associated with calm, clear communication and a kind of emotional evenness — a cooler, quieter energy than something like citrine or golden healer. On a shaman-style piece like this, that calmer material pairs with a carving style that’s usually associated with ritual and ceremonial use, which is a slightly different combination than most shaman skulls carved from darker or more opaque stone.

Compared with the quartz-family shaman skulls we carry more regularly, this one is both rarer as a material and quieter in color. If you’re drawn to shaman-style carving but want something outside of smoky quartz or clear quartz, this is one of the more unusual options we’ve had.
